Beginnings

In June of 2007, a small group began meeting for Bible study at the home of Chris and Melissa Smith in Danville, NH. Those involved were members of Fellowship Bible Church in Methuen, Massachusetts, where Chris had been serving as an elder. For many years he had prayed for God’s direction about expanding the gospel ministry through church planting with a team approach.

From 2004-2007 that team began to take shape as a diverse group of spiritually-minded people were moved by the Lord to commit to this new work. Some had been involved in previous church plants or been around ministry all their lives. Others had more limited exposure, but were led in desire and conviction to get involved. On Sunday, March 30th, 2008, five families were commissioned by the Fellowship Bible Mission to start Cornerstone Church in Plaistow, NH.

Into The Mission Field

Since our first meeting at the Vic Geary Center in Plaistow, on April 6th, 2008, others have joined and our own identity as an independent local church has been forged. We’ve continued to enjoy the interaction and fellowship of the extended Bible-believing community in our local area.

In 2014, Dave Herring and John Skinner joined the elder team, and have helped to lead Cornerstone to a clarity around our vision, mission, values, and strategy so that we are poised to grow into the future. According to a Gallup poll from 2015, New Hampshire is considered the least religious state in the country, and only about 2.5% of Rockingham County considers itself evangelical. New Hamphirites are a rugged and independent tribe, but God’s Spirit continues to transform our hearts of granite to hearts of flesh.
